UPDATE/PHOTOS: SA Symphony Emilio Tribute TONIGHT

NOTE: I just saw a piece on tonight’s Tribute to Emilio on KSAT-TV, San Antonio’s ABC affiliate, and heard Diego sing a bit and let me just say that mixed with my emotions will definitely be pride for how his sons and the SA Symphony is honoring Emilio Navaira and Tejano music. The news report said, based on ticket sales/turnout, they may consider taking the tribute performance on the road to other symphonies across the country. (See the photo gallery below of Emilio’s sons former band, Von Army; Emilio and his brother, Raulito, at the 2012 Tejano Music Awards, and a 2010 concert at  San Antonio’s El Fuerte nightclub where he was joined by his brother and sons.)

Emilio: 2012 TMAs, 2010 SA show, sons’ band

I’ve got my tickets and cannot wait for Thursday evening’s, “A Tribute to Emilio Navaira,” presented by the San Antonio Symphony at the Tobin Center’s HEB Performance Hall. The show starts at 8pm and will feature Emilio’s eldest sons, Emilio IV on guitar and Diego on vocals. Emilio’s original backing band from the 1990s will also appear.

Troy Peters, music director of Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA), is the mastermind behind Thursday’s musical celebration of the undisputed King of Tejano, Emilio Navaira. Among the songs to be performed will include: Bailando Contigo, ¿Donde Andará?, Cómo le haré, and It’s Not the End of the World.

Read Hector Saldana’s article from the San Antonio Express-News, “Emilio’s sons follow in his footsteps with San Antonio Symphony concert,” which includes a Q&A with Emilio IV and Diego. One of the most touching quotes from that interview is when Emilio IV praises his brother Diego’s vocal talent and how it’s so reminiscent of their father, saying: “Diego gives me goose bumps sometimes. I swear I close my eyes every so often and I feel like I’m listening to my dad. This is going to be a show no Emilio fan is going to want to miss.”
