Hope you enjoy the new look, which will feature more photos and celebrates my favorite color and the color of the Tejano Beat logo: PURPLE!  The new year 2011  just felt right for an overall new look and feel to the blog.

‘Somos Hermanos:’ Tejanos revive anthem for good cause

Top Tejano artists gathered last Friday at Keith Harter Studios in San Antonio to re-record a historic anthem, “Somos Hermanos.” The revived version of the song, which was recorded 25 years ago as part of the Tejanos for Hunger project, will soon be available on the website: www.NoMasHambre.com. The song is part of a grassroots initiative to bring awareness of hunger in the Latino community. Partners include AARP, Feeding America, The Office of Minority Health, and Sodexho.

David Chavez of LatinPointe, producers of last year’s successful Tejano Music Awards 30th Anniversary, suggested the idea of reviving the Luis Silva-penned song, “Somos Hermanos.” Along with producer Gilbert Velasquez and artist Chente Barrera, Chavez coordinated more than 30 mostly Tejano artists for the campaign.  Gabe Zavala produced the music video for the project.

Artists including Stefani Montiel, Shelly Lares, Los Texmaniacs, Joe Posada, Sunny Ozuna, Raulito Navaira, Ram Herrera and more gathered for the recording session on Dec. 3. According to Chavez, other artists including Elida Reyna, Jimmy Gonzalez, and Pee Wee recorded from different locations and plans were underway to reach out to artists like Intocable, Los Lonely Boys and LA-based group, Los Lobos.

Chavez said: “It’s a win-win for everyone.  (It’s) an important cause.  (This campaign) unites our artists and gives them visibility around the nation which is good for Tejano music!”

Visit the NoMasHambre.com site for more on the hunger problem. Check the site for the release of the recording and video of the new version of ”Somos Hermanos.”

See more photos of the recording of the song and video at KeithHarterMusic.com.

Intocable, Elida, Siggno and Gary Hobbs tonite @ GCS

Tonight’s KXTN-sponsored concert offers a lineup that has something for everyone:

  • the norteno-Tejano sounds of one of the tightest bands in the industry, Intocable;
  • Grammy-winning, ever-evolving performer, Elida Reyna;
  • a young, hot group led by Jesse Turner: Siggno; and
  • a favorite with the ladies with his mesmerizing eyes and smooth voice, Gary Hobbs!

And it’s all for a great cause.  Admission is $10 to support the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association Blue Santa Program, which provides Christmas presents for children ages 3-12 who might otherwise go without a gift.
