We are from Harlingen and we went to see Vicente Fernandez in San Antonio for Juan’s birthday. Throughout the evening we passed Vicente notes letting him know it was Juan’s birthday and it was his dream to sing with him. To our surprise, he brought Juan on stage and started the song with him and let Juan finish the rest. As you can see, Vicente watches relaxed in the background. We are very blessed to have had this opportunity and shows the type of artist Chente is!

we are thoze guyz crunkjunto we are up and coming band from texas. We concider our selves to be outlaws in the tejano scene. we do the music we feel. we’re the true essence in the the late great “Esteban jordan” vision of tejano music. it is to be original but most of all be our selves… we will be in Tuscan Arizona sept. 17 with the divas and kumbia kings. so get ready!
Tejano music LIVES. Why, because the music plays a huge role in this Mexican-American culture. I’ll point it our again for those Tejano impaired — Tejano is an original American art form much like Country, Americana, and Jazz. It’s a culture of traditions and values originated in Texas but it lives strongly across the southwest.
Better yet, much of the culture originated in South Texas while sounds like Sunny and Sunliners, the Latin Breed, The Royal Jester, Liberty Band have built their legacy from there.
Music fads come and go. Times change traditions don’t!
VIVE Tejano

Hello to all. I want you invite you all to go the Tejano Fan Fair this year. There is a group from California name Flamingo Band. They have a gril lead vocalist who goes by the name of Jessica Baeza. She has two hits right now on B-Net radio. One called “Dime si tu me queires” and “Tell him” She is gorgeous and has voice on her that is unlike most Tejana singers out there right now. You don’t feel like hitting her on her back wishing she would let her voice loose. She is a geniune singer. She has sang with the Texmaniacs, Ruben Ramos as well alot of local bands in the San Berdoo area. She is was born and rasied in San Bernardino California and has been singing since she was 2 yrs old. At the young age of 12 she was already singing infront of live audiances who just loved her. She’s been with the Flamingo Band for 6 years and 5 years before that she was singing with legendary Santos Rodrigues and the Suave band. So please all of you come out and support this band at this years Tejano Fan Fair. Adios Raza.
Hello! from Munich. I enjoy your blog
I’m looking for the female singer of the song “Cucurrucucu Paloma” remade in the early 90′s. It was done as a ballad. It did not have mariachis and the music had a tejano flavor. It might have been Lisa Lopez but i’m not sure.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great job Tejano Beat! Your ASCAP TX Latin Rep, Velia Gonzalez.
I just wanted to comment o the blog in SA express news about “not your father’s Tejano Music” I believe strongly in my Tejano roots and want to continue to share that traditon with my two sons. My parents listend to Tejano music all the time when I was growing up and I remember kids making of fun of me when I was younger because it was looked at in a negative way if that was the music you preferred. It was looked at like the poor man’s music and I abondened my Tejano roots throughout my teen years. But after I grew up and spent time in small towns around South Texas like Alice and Kingsville, I saw how Tejano music was still thriving hard in these communities. Now that I live in San Antonio and have kids of my own I want to be able to pass on that Tejano tradtion to them and introduce them to a great culture involving Tejano music. But sometimes I feel that negative attitude from others when I tell them I enjoy Tejano Music. I am a proud Texan and want to continue to enjoy the music of my culture without others looking down on me for promoting Tejano Music.
Interesting comments on “What defines Tejano”.
I grew up and still live in the “Old West Side” of San Antonio, just blocks away from Patio Andaluz.
I am proud to see Tejano artists rise in recognition in my life time.
What defines a culture better than it’s music? So, Tejano music has given us an identity that can be recognized instead of being thrown into the heap of various other Hispanic Cultures that are seperated by a common language.
As for the the confusing definition of Tejano Music……that unfortunately is the product of infighting between Labels and competing music producers. Everybody wants to own the genere and the only way to do that, is for them to push their own definitions. Fortunately it is the Tejano public, that in the end, embraces or discards what’s real Tejano and what is not.
But here is question that defies conventional Tejano logic……..what major Tejano Star played Main Stage at The Kerrville Folk Festival?
Tejano Artists at The Kerrville Folk Festival?!
Sincerely
Rudy Jones from The West Side
