Tejano music GRAMMYS throughout the years – 1983-2009

See the table below to track the changes the category now known as “Best Tejano Album” has experienced throughout the years at the GRAMMY Awards.  What is now the Tejano music category has its roots in the “Best Mexican-American Performance” category, which began in 1983 at the 26th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

In 1995, the category became known as “Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance” and then in 1998, the category became “Best Tejano Music Performance” and has stayed with “Tejano” in the title since then.

The nominees for the 52nd Annual GRAMMYs were announced and can be seen in the previous post.

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on “GRAMMY Sunday,” Jan. 31, 2010, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and once again will be broadcast live in high definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). 1. Hola. Muy buen artículo, te agregaré a mi lector RSS. Hasta luego!

  2. Interesting how the academy chose narrowed the name down to just ‘Tejano’. Does that mean that bands like Los Lobos (L.A. based) would not be eligible?
